Folks have been collecting Railroad Days buttons from the Portola event since 1983. To date, there are only five buttons that do not incorporate the train image which appears in the original button design.
A “dmontuori” designed the art for the first button. Though little is known about the artist, the Portola Railroad Days Association continues its quest to put a face to a name.
The association has opened up the design of the button to the public over the years, choosing variations of the original design, photographic images, cartoon images and montages.
Donna Mills, one of the members of Portola Railroad Days Association, created the 2010 design.
Buttons from past years, as well as this year’s collectible, will be available for purchase at the event August 19 – 22. |
